New beginnings with old acquaintances
Neul is a new client of Freshleaf's – but its founders are known to us from way back when they set up CSR, now one of Europe's most successful semiconductor companies, and one of our oldest clients. Largely because of the work we do for CSR and the continuing great relationship, Neul's founders came to us for help in creating all the collateral associated with a new start-up business.
Building a brand from scratch
Neul didn't just need a website – as a brand new start-up, the business needed a complete corporate identity. The name Neul comes from the Gaelic for cloud, but Neul wanted to avoid an obvious cloud-based brand. Instead they wanted a very approachable identity which had more in common with colourful social media brands than it did with traditional corporate branding – whilst still conveying a sense of style and permanence. The brand also needed to have 'a feeling of movement or living', and as with all good logos, it needed to be instantly recognisable, and feel familiar even to someone who'd never seen it before.
The full works
With that brief, we wanted to use bright, fresh colours – blue and green were chosen to tie in with environmental themes – and to create shapes which flowed. After some experimentation, a theme was chosen which constructed the initial N of Neul using shapes which suggest connections – which after all is what Neul are all about. With the identity work on the brand completed, we also supplied a brand book setting out guidelines for usage, as well as business cards, letterhead and Powerpoint templates: a complete range of visual collateral.
A dynamic and engaging website
Of course, a large part of the company's visual collateral rests with the website, and once the identity work was completed, the next job was to create a website for Neul. We've worked with a lot of technology B2B start-ups in our time and we know that in this early stage it's all about building the brand and gaining the trust of investors without revealing too much about the technology involved – so the initial incarnation of the website needed to put the brand front and centre, and provide an engaging introduction to Neul's proposition.

Our relationship with Neul is still in early stages but they have been very pleased with everything we've done for them so far, so we're looking forward to another long and productive relationship.
